Last weekend Veritas' CoD4 & CSS teams both attended Multiplays i36 even at Stonleigh Park in Coventry. Going into the event we had very high hopes for both our teams, with our CSS team being seeded 7th and our CoD4 team seeded 10th we felt the lower seeds could really benifit us and we would smash them both. Right from the get go the LAN was eventful, with GizZoR's PC not turning up untill the very last minute, we finally all got the the event safe and sound, time for a few quick PCW's before we all went to bed to get ready for the next day. We agreed to meet up at 9am on the Friday so everyone could get prepared for the task ahead, and the CoD4 guys were true to their word, however raisins and the rest of the CSS guys were still not here at 12pm which lead to a frantic rush to get them all signed up to the CSS tourney The groups started as planned with our teams coming up trumps with all their games, after a massive scare with MrK's PC which wouldnt connect to the network we managed to get him on FluXes computer to play their penultimate group match which they won with ease dispite MrK practically ermining <3 After the group stage everything was going to plan, CSS were topping their group and CoD4 were 2nd in theirs after a loss to Reason. The first stage of the brackets would see CSS going up vs GEClan, a team I had not heard of before, and they didn't cause many problems going down with a simple 16-9. CoD4 were drawn up against mix team INTOODEAP, who were completley outclassed in a 13-3 win. Second stage of the brackets were to prove a bit more difficult for the CoD4 team, coming up against a Sypher team who were playing extremley well and turning a lot of heads, we were expected to lose this, but in an epic game we came out ahead 13-10, drawing in a big crowd behind us it was a great win! The CSS team came up against Rasta-Gaming, who were no match for them in a 16-7 win. Third stage now, and things started to get hot! CSS were drawn up against LLL on our worst map. It was always going to be a really hard game, and although taking a promising lead on CT we were no match for LLL on T and failed to take a round, despite a solid performance the guys were really downhearted that it ended how it did and it ended 16-7 to LLL. CoD4 were drawn up against [R]eason, a team who had beaten them quite comfortably in the group stage, however we knew that we had what it took to beat them, and we were drawn on a strong map for us, citystreets. The game started as well as it could have, we went 8-1 up! But after that Reason adapted very well, and some silly mistakes saw Reason come back to take the win 13-10. A game we really should have won. Fourth stage saw both of our teams down in the Lower Bracket, 1 more lose and we were out. CoD4 were put up against the hot swedish Fnatic side on crossfire, a weak map for us, but a strong map for them. Still we went in and battled to avoid Fnatics well worked and timed nades and wallbang spots and despite taking 1-2 nade kills a round we were leading 11-9 going into the final rounds. But again, some silly mistakes cost us dear and Fnatic came back to take the game 13-11. A very unlucky and frustrating result saw us crash out of the tournament in a bitter 9th-12th place, it annoyed the team as we knew that with a bit more luck we could have easilly gone on to achieve top 5. However the CSS guys were still in and drew GLG, another team that was unknown to me, but in a game that was a bit too close for comfort came up trumps 16-13. Putting us in the quarter finals! Next up was the match that everyone wanted to see. Veritas vs FM! Toxic. It was always going to be an epic game, and watching it was nothing short of gut wrenching. In an extremely long and even game Veritas were the ones that came out screaming 16-14, one of the highlights of our LAN and certainly a result to be proud of! Semi-Finals now and we were up against former Birmingham Salvo team Dignitas! A team who were perhaps not as strong as in their CGS days, but none the less world class. We were lucky with the map draw, getting them on our best map (Inferno). The game started badly and didnt get better with a couple of the team not playing to their normal immaculate standards we sunk to defeat 16-4 and out in a highly respectable 4th-5th place. So the gaming was over and it was time to drink! Overall we had a terrific LAN, the CSS guys have done a great job for us, and so to have the CoD4 guys, who although their final placing does not look good, if you look at their games they were amazing and just very unlucky! Well done lads, you've done us proud! Pictures to follow! |
